I wanted a TTS comparison page that actually sounded like modern Hebrew instead of forcing every voice to cosplay a prophet.
So I built a bakeoff with 10 voices — 5 from Gemini and 5 from ElevenLabs — and gave each of them three jobs:
- a neutral Hebrew paragraph,
- a mixed Hebrew / English paragraph,
- a gender-matched modern spoken Hebrew monologue.
The result is 30 clips total, all hosted outside git on R2 so the repo does not become a blob cemetery.
Open the comparison
If you want the short version before listening: both Gemini and ElevenLabs are now firmly in the range of “reasonable enough to ship”. The fun is in the differences — pacing, warmth, whether the voice feels performative or natural, and who falls apart when Hebrew gets more conversational.
